Your underrated Miami Dolphins players!

In one of my PQOTD posts last week, I cited the story by Bet Ohio, where they pointed out that De’Von Achane was the 5th most undervalued running back in the NFL. With that story in mind, I asked the following question:

With the idea of Achane being one of the NFL’s top bargains, what other Miami Dolphins players do you see as bargains, and which do you see as overpaid, given their production over the last season or the last couple of seasons?

Below are some of your thoughts and answers to the PQOTD-

MIAMI235 on the overrated side of things, cites a high draft pick who has yet to live up to his draft status.

For overrated is Tindall every going to play LB?

Luvs2drnk2.0 makes a good point about rookie deals, but also has a solid list of bargains and one overpaid player.

There should kind of be a caveat with this. I don’t think players still on their rookie contracts should count. Of course if a rookie is playing well they will be undervalued, such as Achane. They haven’t been in the league long enough to get a contract based on how they’ve played. Now based solely on players who aren’t on rookie contracts…

Bargains: Sieler, Smith, Kohou, Brooks, and Dodson (last two assuming they build off last year)

Overpaid: Chubb

SlayerNation1, in response to Luvs2drnk2.0, makes a solid point. Top NFL teams use those lower rookie deals to keep their teams competitive in a league with a hard salary cap. It’s something that our own Dolphins don’t always seem to understand. It would also help if they could figure out how to keep the players they develop, instead of giving all the money and draft picks away for someone else’s player.

Rookies or players otherwise on Rookie contracts contributing is what the better teams do well. It allows them to double-dip – low salary plus production in a capped league.

I forgot about Chubb, because He is so forgettable.

Yes, He is grossly overvalued/overpaid, add overrated for the hat trick.

Dolfanjoe highlights the value of possibly turning an undrafted guy into a starter or at least an excellent backup.

Depending how the draft goes, an undrafted corner named Storm Duck may turn out to be that much needed but underrated player ! And good evening Coach

sdphinsfan chose the previously much maligned Austin Jackson.

I’m going to nominate my man Action Jackson. Two years ago, we all just wanted him gone. And now, when he doesn’t suit up, we can’t run our wide zone scheme to the right side.

Alley Gator sees a Malik breakout when Hill is gone and has a couple of overvalued high draft picks that have yet to show enough to deserve the spot in which they were selected.

Undervalued…Malik Washington. Because if everyone gets their wish and Tyreek is traded/cut, he’ll be starting in Hill’s place.

Overvalued…Patrick Paul. He was a reach when we drafted him in the lower part of the second round, and showed nothing as a rookie to make us think he’s ready. Second place goes to Cam Smith, also drafted in the second round. Why? I dunno.

SlayerNation1 points out that Achanes seemed to fall off a bit in year two, but I would argue in his defense that no one seemed able to run behind that line last season. Also has a solid list of other over and undervalued players.

Undervalued: Achane, willing to be a workhorse despite it being a bad idea. Unsurprisingly, His Rookie year burst seemed to fade in Year 2.

Chop, Malik should be on the list in a year, but need to see more. They are a good value now.

Sieler, probably still undervalued.

Overvalued: all the big contract players on Offense are overpaid for sure and overvalued. They only show value in the most perfect environment (weather, weak opponents, no pressure, regionally televised games)

McDaniel: overpaid/overvalued – nobody does less with more, Offense was mostly solved by quality teams in December of His first season. The only HC (and GM) I have ever witnessed hold a press conference to tell the world He has little control over His subordinates. He can get You 8-10 wins provided there are enough weak opponents on the schedule. His signature win in three years is a Defensive battle in early November @LAR.

We had some solid points made. Right now, all I can hope for going forward is that Grier and McDaniel get this draft right and build a better roster than I feel they have at present. I guess let’s all hope and pray that Grier does not leave us disappointed after the draft this year.

Thank you, as usual, for reading our posts and answering the question of the day. Be sure to check in regularly this week, as the draft is approaching and the news surrounding the Phins and every other NFL team should intensify as the week progresses toward the NFL draft starting on Thursday evening.
