Shedeur Sanders wrapped up his college football career with a strong final season at Colorado. The former Buffaloes quarterback threw for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, while completing an NCAA-best 74.0% of his passes. He also added four rushing touchdowns. His efforts earned him All-American honors and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. He also took home the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
Leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft, Sanders—the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders—was projected to be one of the first two quarterbacks off the board alongside Washington State’s Cam Ward. Ward went No. 1 overall. But Sanders suffered one of the most unexpected slides in recent memory. He fell to Day 3 and was eventually selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round.
WWE legend Bill Goldberg and his son, Gage—who played with Sanders at Colorado—recently shared their thoughts on the slide.

Bill Goldberg and Son Gage React to Shedeur Sanders’ Draft Fall
Gage Goldberg, a preferred walk-on at Colorado as a freshman in 2024, joined his father for a recent appearance on TMZ Sports. Gage didn’t hold back when asked about Sanders dropping in the draft.
“I mean, we were all shocked,” he said. “That’s all I can say about that. The whole team was.”
His father agreed and offered a broader take on the situation.
“You know, from my perspective, it’s just a different day and age. That’s all. It’s truly different,” Bill Goldberg said. “I mean, Shedeur’s got talent on top of talent. Sometimes people read things into things that shouldn’t be read into. It is what it is.”
Goldberg didn’t shy away from saying Sanders was undervalued.
“It’s going to turn out to be a success story no matter what. And it’s something that he can come back from,” he said. “Obviously, he was not properly picked based upon all of the variables—for one reason or another. But that’s all over with. Now he’s going to go make that team and hopefully be the starting quarterback as soon as possible. He could be one of the next Sanders to be unbelievable in the NFL.”
He also gave a shoutout to another member of the Sanders family.
“We got Shilo [Sanders] down in Tampa Bay, too,” Goldberg added.
Gage chimed back in with confidence in both brothers.
“Man, all I’m going to tell you is with all the hate that those two have gotten—and Shedeur falling all the way in the draft—they’re just going to use that as fuel, and they’re going to kick some a** in the NFL. I can’t wait to see it.”
Bill Goldberg closed it out by saying that if the Sanders brothers needed more motivation, they got it on draft weekend.
“It’s a dangerous package,” he said.
Shedeur Sanders is now competing for the starting quarterback job with the Cleveland Browns. His brother Shilo, a defensive back, will fight to earn a roster spot with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
