WNO 28 happened Friday night in Costa Mesa, California, and it was headlined by a champion vs. champion bout, as Mica Galvao moved up to face middleweight champ Jonnatas Gracie.

The 21 year old showed why he is considered among the top pound-for-pound Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) stars today, as he beat Gracie to become a simultaneous two-division WNO champion.

Triple champ? Mica Galvao dominates Jonnatas Gracie at WNO 28, calls for third title

Mica Galvao won the super-fight between champions, showcasing his top game and passing to handily beat Jonnatas Gracie at the WNO 28 main event. Galvao shut down Gracie’s guard game, getting a few passes and a near back take. He also had a pretty nasty anaconda choke and face crush attempt late in the match.

Gracie survived to the final bell, but Galvao was dominant and won an easy decision to win his second WNO title.

After the win, Mica Galvao called out WNO light heavyweight champion Pedro Marinho to try and become a three-division title holder.

“He said he wants a rematch. Let’s do it for the title of the 205 lb division. I want to go and look for my third belt,” Galvao said, asking to move up yet another weight class.

Mica already has a 2021 win over the much bigger Pedro Marinho, where he won by armlock.

At just 21, Galvao further added to his incredible resume that already includes an impressive BJJ Stars 15 Grand Prix win, and a 2024 “Super Grand Slam” championship after winning gold in ADCC worlds and all four major IBJJF titles.

Australian BJJ stars Declan Moody, Kit Dale take big wins at WNO 28

Outside of the main event, two Australians also shined at WNO 28, with the biggest winner being recent CJI Trials winner Declan Moody. The B-Team heavyweight countered a leg lock attempt from 50-50 and submitted CJI 1 finalist Fellipe Andrew with a heel hook of his own. Moody won the shootout and impressively got the submission finish in just 63 seconds.

In a battle of grappling veterans, CJI Australasia standout Kit Dale beat BJJ legend Xande Ribeiro by decision. Dale managed to get a couple of takedowns and implement his top pressure and passing game to win a pretty comfortable decision.
