Teams have all-time great players who usually earn that title primarily due to their performance on the field. Then there are those players who may or may not be considered all-time greats but are fan favorites during their time playing for the team for various reasons. Maybe it’s their on-field and off-the-field leadership, perhaps it’s their community involvement, or maybe it’s simply the effort they put in every play, regardless of their natural talent level. These are the individuals you would like to see stick around after their playing days. They are the players who help instill the kind of culture you want within the team, even when they are no longer on the field. I had a lot of that on my mind when Terron Armstead decided to retire, and with that, I asked the following question:

Given his proven leadership, would you like to see the Dolphins extend Armstead the offer of a position with the organization that can continue to pay benefits for the team? Besides Terron, are there other former players that you would like to see the team bring back in a different role? What about other guys who are currently playing? Do you see a possible future role for them with the team when their playing days are over?

Below are your thoughts and answers on the PQOTD-

610WIOD believes he probably has better options, but I still think that even if that’s the case, the Dolphins should reach out and see if he would like to retain a role in a game that he clearly loves.

The real question is whether he’d want a job in the organization. He strikes me as a guy with lots of (better) options.

21Dave doesn’t believe he wants to be a coach. I was thinking more of something in the front office or maybe the scouting department.

In most cases, this sounds like a good idea for the Phins, but bringing him back as a coach or assistant coach would not sound fun for him. Most coaches are at the building more often and longer than the players. Maybe something he would considering 5-10 years but he doesn’t need the money and sounds like he enjoys his normal life as well.

DolphinsKings1 has some good ideas for adding T-Stead to the fold.

T-Stead is a rap artist he has other endeavors for sure. But, I think if anything a commentator with the Dolphins Broadcast or something like an a advisor like Danny.

SuperG! thinks the team should reach out to another former Phins great.

What’s Cam Wake doing these days? I always kind of saw him as someone who would be a good fit for a coaching role.

twinssdfan makes a good point; he might want some time off. That being said, you could still extend an open offer to a guy that is well worth it.

The F.O. could offer him a position i think the bigger question would he want it? The man just retired.

Thomas23059 likes the idea of keeping former players around. I also wanted to see Zach Thomas and JT added to the organization at some point. I’m not sure why nothing has ever been offered to Thomas, or maybe it has, and he didn’t like the position that they offered. JT, of course, has his own thing going on now with the U. I believe that he will eventually be a head coach at the college level and might someday work his way back into the NFL.

The San Francisco Giants are a great example of how keeping former players in the organization. They have them doing everything from community outreach to “scouting” (yes, this means they let them go watch baseball games and talk about players) to coaching to now leading the organization (Buster Posey). Basically, if a former player wants to work with the organization they find them a spot and keep them around the team.

I would love to see the Dolphins do something similar. Let the players know that once they play for the Dolphins, they are part of a community for the rest of their lives.

As for former players that I would want to see around the team, all of them that want to be there. Because what you see with the Giants is that the bad apples stay away. So Jay Cutler probably won’t be stopping by. People will jump to the positive examples, players like Armstead, Marino, Zach Thomas, and Jason Taylor, but some of the bad ones would be good to see around as well. Someone like a Dion Jordan who could talk to young players about the pitfalls that come with the game. Make a community of it. The fans will love it, and so will the players.

It was not our best response, but I seriously appreciate each of you who took the time to read and answer our question. Here’s to hoping that things pick up as the draft draws closer.
