Ferrari and Lexus secured their respective Hyperpoles for the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the third round of the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship.
The sun continues to shine over the Ardennes circuit in a cool atmosphere, and the qualifying sessions delivered excitement and drama as always, with gaps down to hundredths of a second.
HYPERCARIn the HYPERCAR class, it’s three out of three for Ferrari, once again in Hyperpole thanks to an unstoppable Antonio Fuoco who put the #50 499P at the top of the timesheets.
Despite the many harsh critics who targeted him after Imola, the Calabrian was the only one to go under 2 minutes, setting a 1’59″617 that gave the Maranello car pole by 0″347 over the Giallo Modena #83 AF Corse entry driven by an excellent Robert Kubica.
The Ferrari 1-2-3 was completed by Antonio Giovinazzi, even though the #51 499P driver made a mistake at ‘Les Combes’ that ruined his final lap.
At that point, however, the top positions were already decided, as Stoffel Vandoorne had already returned to the pits holding a strong fourth place in the #94 Peugeot, followed by Alex Lynn in the #12 Cadillac. Mick Schumacher ended up sixth in the #36 Alpine, 0″7 off the pace.
Eighth place went to the #20 BMW of Robin Frijns. Over 1 second behind, Charles Milesi in the #35 Alpine and Earl Bamber in the #38 Cadillac completed the Top 10.
Fuoco had already set the benchmark with a 2’00″108 in the 15-minute Qualifying session, ahead of Vergne and Kubica, while Bamber’s final improvement (up to ninth) eliminated the #15 BMW of Raffaele Marciello, who dropped to 11th ahead of the three Porsches.
The Penske Team’s 963s were 1″4 off the pace, and Kévin Estre, 12th in the #6, also made a mistake exiting ‘Fagnes’ that damaged the right side of the rear wing, ending his final attempt.
Behind the Frenchman were teammate Julien Andlauer in the #5 and Nico Varrone in the #99 (Proton Competition), while the eighth row was all Toyota: Brendon Hartley qualified 15th in the #8 GR010 Hybrid, followed by Kamui Kobayashi in the #7, who laconically commented at the end of the session, “we simply have a fantastic lack of performance” with an ironic smile, clearly referring to the negative BoP for the Japanese team.
