Dmitry Bivol earned his much-desired revenge against the man who took his undefeated record and undisputed light heavyweight titles, Artur Beterbiev, at their championship rematch a few weeks ago (highlights here), and now the Russian title holder will likely have a fresh face to fight in his next challenge.
According to Ring Magazine, Bivol has been ordered to defend his titles against none other than current WBC interim light heavyweight champion, David Benavidez. “The Mexican Monster” is the rightful owner of the next title shot after amassing an undefeated record of 30-0 with 24 knockouts. In his most recent outing, Benavidez went toe-to-toe against a game David Morrell last month, winning a unanimous decision (see it again here).
Shortly after Bivol defeated Beterbiev (scorecards here), the new champion wasn’t too sure a trilogy fight was next on deck, despite efforts from Beterbiev to lock it down. After teasing a move up to cruiserweight, it seems Biol will likely stay put and face one of the most dominate fighters in his division today.
A win over Benavidez will skyrocket Bivol’s stock and further enhance his resume ,which includes being the only man to defeat two undisputed champions in Beterbiev and Canelo Alvarez.
