Gedeon Promotions staged another successful Pro-Am in Cleveland, Ohio, Saturday night at their mainstay venue, The LaSalle Theater.Â
Â
Capitalizing on an action-packed lineup in the main event, Cruiserweights Jordan Gruszewski (4-0-1, 3 KOs) of Cleveland and Indianapolis native Joel Mutombo (8-0-1, 6 KOs) battled to an 8-round draw.Â
Â
Trainer Bryan Gedeon and fans in attendance would agree that this was the obvious fight of the night.Â
Â
Non-stop action from start to finish gave the fans a view of two combatants willing to risk their “0” early in their careers.
Â
The judges’ tallies read as 77-75 for Mutombo, 78-75 for Gruszewski, and 76-76, making it a split draw.Â
Â
“Gruszewski- Mutombo fight was by far the best match up the city of Cleveland has had in quite some time,” said promoter Allegra Gedeon.Â
Â
The Co-Main Event was a 10-round super middleweight bout as local favorite Nick Rezek (5-1, 2 KOs) of Cleveland earned a clear-cut unanimous decision over Kentucky’s Joe Thompson (5-8, 3 KOs).Â
Â
All 3 scores were 99-91.Â
Â
Debuting junior welterweight Khalil Osaze (1-0, 1 KO) made short work of Assan Tucker (0-5) of Omaha.Â
Â
Osaze, coming off a solid amateur career, was explosive from the opening bell, finishing his opponent in the first of a scheduled four. The stoppage came at 2:02 of the opening stanza.Â
Â
Female middleweight Crashonna Wynn(2-1) won by TKO in the second round over Anari Matthews (0-3) of Kalamazoo, Michigan.Â
Â
Wynn, now a middleweight, came in 17 lbs heavier than her last fight here at the LaSalle Theater, making it her second win in a row.Â
Â
The pro portion started with an exciting 4-round fight between Devin Young (2-0, 1 KO) of Cleveland defeating Leonard McDonald III (0-1) of Pontiac, MI by unanimous decision.
Â
The evening started with 9 exciting amateur fights.Â
Â
The lone open division fight featured Brady Stone winning by unanimous decision and improving to 10-1.Â
Â
Charlie Williams, now 3-0, was named the “Leslie Washington Fighter of the Night” (in memory of recently deceased USA Boxing official) for the amateur portion of the card.Â
Â
Promoter Allegra Gedeon was thrilled with the entire show.Â
Â
“The card was great from start to finish. The amateurs started the night off with a bang. The first 3 pro fights were exciting with 2 of them ending by stoppage. Next came the 10 round match up that went the distance and didn’t have a dull moment.”
Â
“Of course the main event was the best fight and we are proud of both guys for taking the risk at this stage in their careers.”
Â
Gedeon Promotions’ next Pro-Am will take place on July 19th at the LaSalle Theater.Â
