On Tuesday, it was reported by Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald that veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas visited the Miami Dolphins last week, however a deal was not agreed upon and the 30-year-old left South Florida without a contract.

Douglas visited with the Seattle Seahawks today, but no deal has been reported with that club at the time of this writing either.

In his report, Jackson would say that the Dolphins are in the market for a veteran presence in the cornerback room, but only at “their price point.” The team continues to explore options, but would be happy if former second round pick Cam Smith could prove himself to be a viable starting player in Miami’s secondary.

“The Dolphins remain adamant that Cam Smith, as a talented former second-rounder, should be better than he’s shown and they’ve essentially ordered him to be better.”

Douglas has played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills during his nine-year career. During that time, he has played in 120 games with 80 starts — recording 441 tackles, 19 interceptions (3 of which he returned for touchdowns), 3 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries. He has never been selected to a Pro Bowl during his career.

We will continue to monitor Miami’s cornerback situation, and bring you any news that may come out regarding Douglas and other options at that position as the offseason rolls on.
