UFC fans waited this long for the Tom Aspinall vs. Jon Jones heavyweight title unification fight and it sounds like they’re expecting the promotion to deliver it.
That’s probably why the recent announcement that UFC would be returning to Paris on Sept. 6 was met with an avalanche of comments pushing back against the possibility of Aspinall — the current interim champion — fighting former substitute straphanger, Ciryl Gane, for the undisputed title.
Nobody to blame but Jones.
“Don’t you dare book Gane vs. Aspinall as the main event,” one fan wrote on social media, while another suggested UFC Paris was “gonna be Gane vs. Aspinall.”
There’s very little chance the promotion would book a major UFC title bout for a “Fight Night” card on ESPN+, though it stands to reason Gane, who is from Paris, remains a potential candidate to headline the Sept. 6 card at Accor Arena.
Just not against Aspinall.
The power-punching Brit recently told the combat sports community he’s got a date and location for his next fight, but didn’t elaborate on details. Check out the heavyweight Top 10 RIGHT HERE to speculate on possible options should Jones fail to answer the call.
