UFC 316 Countdown takes an inside look at two title fights, as bantamweight king Merab Dvalishvili attempts to defend his crown against Sean O’Malley, and women’s bantamweight queen Julianna Peña puts her belt on the line against Kayla Harrison.
UFC 316 takes place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. It will the 11th time the fight promotion has held an event in New Jersey’s most populous city.
Dvalishvili won the 135-pound championship by defeating O’Malley at UFC 306 at The Sphere in Las Vegas last September. He successfully defend the title against Umar Nurmagomedov at UFC 311 in January. “The Machine” is on an incredible 12-fight winning streak and hasn’t tasted defeat since 2018.
O’Malley hasn’t fought since the lost to Dvalishvili. Following the UFC 306 loss, O’Malley underwent hip surgery. Fully recovered, “Suga” wants the belt back.
