After much discussion — perhaps way too much discussion — the NFL has tabled the vote to ban the tush push at the annual meeting, per multiple reports.

Despite many vocal (and wrong) coaches and GMs arguing the safety concerns with the Eagles extremely successful play, it would appear they don’t have the support of 24 clubs to pass a rule change. In fact, they’re pretty far off from the support they need with 16 teams reportedly against barring the play.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the conversation is over, just pushed back until at least May. Insiders suggest that even if they don’t have the support in May, they’ll try again next year.

If the data didn’t support their various arguments now, assumptions would be, it won’t support their arguments at a later date, either. But, it looks like with some adjustments to the language of the rule, the Eagles may still be forced to change their approach to the tush push.
The tabling of the tush push opens the rule up to potentially have its language tweaked.
So while the play itself might not be banned, it could still look different going forward.

For now, the Eagles can only wait and see how this plays out. Some kind of change seems inevitable — but all these debates are getting old.
