Tim Tszyu (24-2, 17 KOs) and Joey Spencer (19-1, 11 KOs) will soon face each other in a 10-round super welterweight clash.
Their bout headlines a card promoted by No Limit Boxing and The Rose Brothers – in association with TGB Promotions – at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre in New South Wales, Australia. Fight fans in the country can catch the action live as a pay-per-view on Kayo Sports. Those in the United States and select countries can watch on Prime Video as part of their Prime subscription.
Ahead of their April 6 (Australia date and time) fight, both men spoke at a press conference. Below is some of what they said.
Tim Tszyu vs. Joey Spencer Press Conference Quotes
Tim Tszyu
“Every fight you go in feeling good and I’m excited to be back in Australia,” said Tszyu. “It’s good to be home for sure.”
“I’ve got an opponent in front of me and I’m 100 per cent ready and focused on what I have to do. Some things happen in boxing and we just have to learn from the mistakes and come back stronger.”
“I want to be on the biggest stages. I want to do it for Australia. I have a lot of people behind me and it’s a big responsibility. It’s gonna be massive to be back in Newcastle. Hopefully I can contain myself and stay nice and relaxed.”
Joey Spencer
“I’m not surprised that he wants to go toe-to-toe,” said Spencer. “When you get this close to fight night, you really just want to go in there and tear somebody up. I’m not thinking about what to make of what he says, because we’re gonna get in there and find out. No matter how he comes out, we’re going to be ready to fight fire with fire.”
“I feel great. It’s been a great time in Australia and a great finish to camp. I’m feeling really good and ready.”
Fight Prediction
Tszyu is coming off of a beatdown from Bakhram Murtazaliev that happened just under six months ago. On the other hand, Spencer won his last fight via majority decision. For both men, this is an opportunity to show they still have what it takes to compete at the highest level in this sport. Should they decide to go toe-to-toe, expect a stoppage for Tszyu due to him possessing greater punching power. Even if this is a fight that goes the distance, the Australian should have the ability to outwork Spencer. However, it is more likely that Tszyu will win this via stoppage, so expect him to do so.
