Miesha Tate is set to face Yana Santos this weekend at UFC on ESPN 67 at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.
Ahead of the clash, let’s revisit a throwback story Tate shared about an unexpected incident involving her rival Ronda Rousey and ex-UFC fighter Paige VanZant.
Miesha Tate Details Heated Clash Between Ronda Rousey and Paige VanZant
On episode #794 of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Miesha Tate went down memory lane and shared an incident that Paige VanZant had with her involving Ronda Rousey.
Tate recalled meeting VanZant at an event, where “12 Gauge” shared an incident from a Reebok shoot. VanZant was looking to get a photo with Rousey, but brand representatives warned her not to ask.
“Paige was also at that VIP party, and Paige and I were friendly. she felt the need she came out to shake me. She made sure, she’s like, I have to tell you this experience I had with Ronda. I’m like, Oh, what? And she’s like, Well, we were at a Reebok deal, and we were at a shoot. I was trying to find her so we could get a picture, and the Reebok people were like, ‘Don’t ask Ronda for a picture.’”
Tate further revealed that VanZant told her that Rousey showed up later for the shoot and lashed out at her, cursing her unexpectedly.
“She’s like, Why? They said, Just don’t do it. Just stay away from Ronda. Don’t ask her for a picture. She’s like, Okay. And I guess Ronda came later that day and sought her out and just cussed her out. Like, they’ve never really had a conversation either. She’s like, I don’t know Ronda, you know, other than ‘hi,’ ‘bye,’ that’s it.”
Tate shared that VanZant received all the verbal abuse simply because she congratulated Rousey’s former opponent, Holly Holm, for her victory over Rousey.
“I guess Ronda came up and was like, F**K you, you Fairweather. How dare you cross me. Paige was like, “Cross you? What are you talking about?” And she said, You congratulated Holly Holm for beating me. So f**k you, you Fairweather 115-pound f**k you. she just went off on Paige.”
“Cupcake,” who had a contentious history with Rousey herself, wasn’t surprised and humorously welcomed Paige to her side in understanding Rousey’s personality.
“And Paige came and told me, and I was like, “Honey, welcome to my world.” She’s like, “Oh my god. I’m glad that I saw this side of her so I know.”
Tate and Rousey faced each other twice in their careers. Their first bout took place in 2012, where “Cupcake” was submitted in the first round via armbar.
In their rematch in 2013, the story remained the same as Tate was again submitted by armbar, this time in the third round.
