Heading into the 2025 MLB season, the MVP race was expected to be between Dodgers sensation Shohei Ohtani and New York Mets record-setting free agent acquisition Juan Soto. Instead it is a different (and much longer tenured) Met giving Ohtani a run for his money early in June – Pete Alonso.Â
Before the season began it wasn’t even a sure thing Alonso would be back in Queens, but he signed a two-year, $54-million contract in February after his clutch hitting helped the Mets get to the NLCS. This year he’s hitting what would be a career-best .301 with 17 home runs while leading the Major Leagues in RBI with 61.Â
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Alonso has been a masher his entire career with the Mets, and his latest home run against the Colorado Rockies moved him into second place on the Mets all-time home run leaderboard.
