Paris 2024 super heavyweight Delicious Orie announced on Instagram that he’s hanging up the gloves in favor of a corporate career.
Orie (1-0, 0 KO) went one-and-done at the Olympics, dropping a split decision to Armenia’s Davit Chaloyan in the Round of 16. He eventually signed with Queensberry Promotions in February ahead of an April debut against Croatian journeyman Milos Veletic, who took Orie the four-round distance in an uninspiring affair.
Orie’s assessment of his performance appears to mirror that of most observers. He claims his passion for the sport had “gradually faded” and he’d turned pro in an ultimately unsuccessful effort to “reignite” it. Fair play to him for having the self-awareness to know it wasn’t there.
As the BBC points out, the 27-year-old has a degree in Economics and Management, so he should be well-positioned for white-collar work. Best of luck to him.
