Former Grand Slam doubles champion Rennae Stubbs ripped Iga Swiatek’s serve as “discombobulated” and bluntly stated that the Pole’s service should be much better than it is right now.
So far, the world No. 2 hasn’t had a great 2025 season and several things have contributed to that. One of those things is the evident inconsistency on her serve as the 23-year-old has hit more double faults (66) than aces (56). Also, the Polish star has won 67.1% of her first-serve points and only 50.1% percent of her second-serve points. In total, she has a hold percentage of her service games at 76.4% in 2025.
In her last match played, Swiatek shockingly lost her serve eight times during a surprise Miami defeat to Alexandra Miami.
And Stubbs, who won five Grand Slams in doubles and also worked with Serena Williams during the American’s 2022 US Open farewell, thinks the Pole definitely has a lot to correct on her serve.
Stubbs: I absolutely hate Swiatek’s discombobulated service motion
“She should have a much better serve. I absolutely hate her service motion. It is so discombobulated. It’s like she takes the arm there, then the foot comes way too much to the front of her body,” the former doubles world No. 1 said on the Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast.
“She has like three hitches, she is very front on, her ball toss is way too far to the right. There is a lot of things she could improve to get a better serve and get more free points on her serve and become more of a weapon.”
When Swiatek split with Tomasz Wiktorowski and hired Naomi Osaka’s former long-time coach Wim Fissette in late 2024, she highlighted that improving her serve was one of her priorities. While the four-time French Open champion has made some tweaks and adjustments to her serve, it hasn’t brought her much success so far.
