There will be very little rest for Chelsea’s players due to the controversial newly adapted Club World Cup this summer.
Chelsea’s first game is on June the 16th, giving our players and coaches very little time off before it. And then even after it, pre-season will begin so there is quite literally, no rest for the wicked.
I’m rather split. It brings us a lot of money, which is great. I can see the excitement around it all as well. But the reality is, these guys need every opportunity to have a break from the game, it’s so important mentally and physically. They play in the summer enough already with international competitions on every couple of years, so adding an extra big and long domestic competition to it for me is simple overkill and greed. The rich will get richer though, which is the world we live in.
But, taking away all of that, obviously I am excited to watch Chelsea play in this summers Club World Cup, leaving out the ugly side of it all.
Chelsea obviously won the competition in 2022, and it was an exciting moment and another chance to win some silverware.
Our group for this year’s competition has now been officially confirmed.
FIFA Club World Cup Group D:
1. Chelsea FC (England) 🏴
2. Flamengo (Brazil) 🇧🇷
3. Espérance Sportive (Tunisia) 🇹🇳
4. Los Angeles FC (America) 🇺🇲🆕
So, looking at this group, Chelsea should be more than capable of advancing in the competition to face up against some of the much better sides.
Flamengo are a decent side, but there shouldn’t really be anything else here other than some possible banana skins. But Chelsea have had no issues with banana skins in the Conference League this season, winning that with ease.
This is a full list of clubs participating:
Obviously it’s LA FC confirmed over Club America.
The new-look Club World Cup will feature 32 teams and will be played every four years from the summer of 2025. It is an expansion of the previous version of the tournament, which took place every year and involved just seven teams from around the world.
To replace the annual competition, an Intercontinental Cup will be played annually and have the Champions League winner playing in the final against a team that comes through intercontinental play-offs.
This CWC starts on June 15, with the final taking place on July 13.
The 2025 Club World Cup takes place in the United States across 12 stadiums:
– Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta)
– Bank of America Stadium (Charlotte)
– TQL Stadium (Cincinnati)
– Rose Bowl Stadium (Los Angeles)
– Hard Rock Stadium (Miami)
– GEODIS Park (Nashville)
– Camping World Stadium (Orlando)
– Inter&Co Stadium (Orlando)
– Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia)
– Lumen Field (Seattle)
– Audi Field (Washington, D.C.)
I’m sure some of our community on here will be going to some games, let us know in the comments if you are going or planning to go! It’s a great chance for American Chelsea fans to watch a live game, which is the special non-ugly side of such a competition.
Oh heck, I’m going to go ahead and order my wall chart then! Oh, and the GOAT will be there too….
