On Friday, it was reported that sophomore guard MiLaysia Fulwiley plans to enter the NCAAW transfer portal. The decision comes days after the South Carolina Gamecocks fell to the UConn Huskies in the National Championship game.
The NCAA Women’s Basketball transfer portal is becoming increasingly eventful before the 2025-26 season begins in November. On Tuesday, guard Olivia Miles announced that she will transfer to the TCU Horned Frogs after spending four years with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Throughout her first two seasons of collegiate career with the Gamecocks, Fulwiley was a part of the 2024 National Championship team, named to the SEC All-Freshman team, and won SEC Tournament MVP and Sixth Player of the Year awards. Additionally, she averaged 11.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 43.1 percent from the field.

There are questions as to which team Fulwiley will end up on before the 2025-26 college women’s basketball season. In the two seasons with South Carolina, she started only three games for the Gamecocks.
“How is she not starting?” WNBA legend Diana Taurasi said on Fulwiley during the matchup between South Carolina and Texas on the alternate broadcast of the Bird and Taurasi show last Friday.
Teams like Notre Dame, Ole Miss, and Maryland seek a starting guard who can bring a flashy and dynamic play style. Fulwiley is a walking highlight reel with a ton of potential athletic upside.
What’s Next For Dawn Staley And The South Carolina Gamecocks?
On Wednesday, guard Ta’Niya Latson committed to play for the South Carolina Gamecocks after spending the last three years with the Florida State Seminoles.
Head coach Dawn Staley has been aggressive in recruiting when it comes to the transfer portal since she has turned the program around for the past 17 years.
The nation’s leading scorer, Latson is recognized for her dynamic and versatile playing style, which evolved from her freshman season. Throughout her junior year, she averaged 25.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.2 steals per game while shooting 45.1 percent from the field.
Latson is also familiar with guard Raven Johnson, with whom she played throughout high school.
As the Gamecocks aim to return to the Women’s Final Four, Staley and the team are hopeful the future. With the addition of Latson, the Gamecocks have one goal in mind: securing another national championship and continuing their winning ways
