Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney will not be offered a pathway back into management by Blackburn Rovers.

Rooney’s management career started quite well as he did a commendable job with Derby County in challenging financial circumstances.

After a spell in charge of DC United in the United States of America, he has failed spectacularly in his last two Championships jobs.

He only lasted 15 matches in charge of Birmingham City before being sacked and could only manage 25 games at Plymouth Argyle before losing his job in December.

The United legend is now working as a pundit but there had been reports that Blackburn Rovers were considering offering him a route back into football management.

Speaking to Footy Accumulators No Tippy Tappy Football podcast (via The Daily Star), Blackburn’s head of football operations, Rudy Gestede, has rubbished the notion, however.

Their current boss, Valerian Ismael, has had a difficult start to his role and there is mounting speculation that he will be dismissed at the end of the season.

Rovers still have an outside chance of making the playoffs for the Premier League but with only two matches left, it looks unlikely.

Commenting on the swirling rumours about their manager Gestede stated, “we cannot control the media. That’s their job to try to give information around.”

Elaborating further on the links to United’s all-time top goalscorer he said, “I don’t know if it’s from an agent or Wayne Rooney himself. I don’t think so, but you never know. It’s never been the plan.”

He also backed the Ewood Park side’s current manager by claiming, “we are happy with Valerian, we want to give him time. We chose him because of the project, and it doesn’t make any sense to make a decision now.”

Rooney certainly still has ambitions to continue his managerial career. He has stated in a recent interview that while he is not in a rush to return, he would definitely sign for the “right” club.
