The question of the fifth major is mentioned year after year, and Lee Trevino, the legend of golf, seems to have nothing against the Players Championship becoming the fifth major. For years, this tournament has been mentioned in such a context, with different opinions come from different people.

Some believe that it would really be the right move, while others are not sure if this tournament can really belong to the company of the best.

The 85-year-old golf legend has no doubt that this tournament has the potential to become the fifth major. Looking at the visit, the golf course, and the attention it attracts, Lee believes this story.

“The question that’s always been around and people keep talking about is should this be the fifth Major?” Trevino said during an appearance on the Golf Channel, as quoted by Golf Monthly.

“Yes, and there’s no question in my mind about it.

The field, the course, look at it, 100,000 people, why not? I mean, iat’s unbelievable. Unbelievable.”- he continued.

Lee Trevino shares his views about the Players Championship

Lee Trevino expressed his opinion that the Players Championship should become the fifth Major. He believes that there is no reason why this should not be the case.

According to him, the golf course on which this tournament is held is of a great quality and in top condition, while the competition among players is the strongest in all of golf. Also, the viewership of this tournament is quite amazing.

The Hall of Famer points out this tournament has been going on for almost 50 years, which is long enough to deserve the status of a Major tournament. He feels that it would make a small shift in the number of Majors won for some famous players like Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and himself, but that it would not change the standings.

The question is whether golf officials will really consider such a move, which does not seem particularly realistic. However, in recent years we have realized that nothing is impossible in the world of this sport, so let’s wait and see how this situation unfolds.
