It was supposed to be a milestone moment for Nathan “Chelito” Ordaz — his debut in the FIFA Club World Cup representing LAFC. But the Salvadoran striker’s highly anticipated first appearance was abruptly cut short after just 38 minutes on the field due to a suspected concussion.

Ordaz took a hard shot to the face early in the match and appeared visibly dazed afterward. Despite attempting to continue, his discomfort was evident, and he eventually requested to be substituted. LAFC quickly activated the concussion protocol, and head coach Steve Cherundolo replaced him with David Martínez.

The referee paused the game around the 38th minute and signaled for medical staff to assess Ordaz. Following standard safety procedures under FIFA regulations, the player was escorted off the pitch for a more thorough evaluation.

According to team medical reports, he was suffering from dizziness and mild disorientation, symptoms consistent with a potential concussion. He was taken to the locker room for further observation and did not return to the bench for the remainder of the game.

Ordaz’s early exit was a disappointing turn of events for both the player and Salvadoran fans, who had been eagerly watching his debut on the world stage. At just 20 years old, the young forward had earned his spot in LAFC’s Club World Cup roster after a promising start to the 2025 MLS season.

David Martínez, who replaced him, brought fresh energy to LAFC’s front line, but the match ended in a scoreless draw against Egyptian champions Al Ahly.
