Bolton, England’s Khaleel Majid moved to 15-0 (4 KOs) after the biggest win of his career this past weekend. He beat previously undefeated Alex Murphy by UD 10, who came into the bout at a perfect 13-0 himself. The fight was a cracker from the opening bell.
They were fighting Saturday night on the Joe Joyce – Filip Hrgovic heavyweight fight at the Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester. Trained by former world champion and one of boxing’s best trainers, Buddy McGirt, this is a man on a mission.
Perfect so far in 15 outings – he is impressing with speed and a good boxing IQ.
While Majid sees himself fighting for a world title one day, he knows that he has to be patient and focus on the current tasks at hand.
In a recent interview, he expressed that patience is as important as anything right now.
“I just listen to my coach (McGirt) and focus on one fight at a time. I don’t put my energy into nothing else or what’s after”, he said. “I just focus on the present”.
After going out to Los Angeles and pitching himself to McGirt, the two hooked up, and he has been with Buddy ever since.
After his big win, the biggest of his career, he is looking for more opportunities this year.
In post-fights interviews, he made it clear that he has to keep working but is excited about what is next.
“Going into this fight was very emotional for myself”, he said. “A lot has happened in my life this last year and it showed in the fight. I fought an undefeated fighter who gave it everything he had”, he continued. “This was the biggest fight of my career on the big stage and I’m thankful to Queensbury and Frank Warren for giving me this opportunity. And, also a massive thank you to my supporters”.
So, coming off his big win, what’s next?
“What’s next? God willing, I have some positive news. I leave it in God’s hands”.
