In a grappling match between top-10 UFC middleweights, Caio Borralho got the best of Brendan Allen.
Allen competed six days after losing a unanimous decision to Anthony Hernandez in the co-main event of UFC Seattle, and faced Borralho in the co-main special attraction of Friday’s Karate Combat 53 card in Seattle. Both fighters had a lot of fun in the pit, but in the end, Borralho won both rounds on the judges’ scorecards to earn a unanimous decision victory.
Borralho got over with the fans before the match began, throwing out pairs of Fighting Nerds glasses to the fans in attendance. The Brazilian utilized a collar tie early, before Allen shot for a single and got trapped in a guillotine by Borallho. Allen was able to escape and a standing stalemate began. Allen shot a single a gain, but Borralho was easily able to evade. After a scramble, Borralho got to full mount for a moment, then transitioned to a kimura attempt. Allen defended to end the first round.
As the second round began, Borralho put Allen on his back and got back to full mount. Allen did a nice job getting the surging middleweight contender off of him, but Borralho was able to get another dominant position on top with full mount and a back take. Allen, again, escaped and got on top with a takedown in the corner of the pit. Borralho reversed position, and both competitors smiled at each other before Borralho jumped on the back again to close out the match.
In his most recent octagon appearance, Borralho defeated Jared Cannonier in the main event of UFC Vegas 96 this past August to improve his UFC record to 7-0, and extend his overall win streak to 16 fights.
