Rising featherweight Jean Silva asked to fight Bryce Mitchell and UFC matchmakers granted his request. Silva and Mitchell met on the UFC 314 main card on Saturday in what grew into a grudge match.
Silva’s desire to fight Mitchell was driven by recent comments Mitchell made about Hitler. Mitchell entered the fight coming off a win over Kron Gracie in his last outing. Silva brought a 12-fight winning streak with him to Kaseya Center in Miami.
They did not touch gloves.
Mitchell pressured Silva early. He used kicks to keep Silva on the outside. Silva stood his ground but wasn’t firing back. Mitchell delivered a hard leg kick. Silva responded with a kick to the body. Silva began pressing forward. Mitchell continued to deliver leg kicks. Silva connected with a right hand. Mitchell had a higher output through the first half of the round. Mitchell looked for a takedown but Silva defended it. Silva landed a back kick. Mitchell immediately changed levels and Silva applied a guillotine choke. Mitchell popped his head out and Silva scrambled to his feet. Silva went for a ninja choke but let it go. They separated in the final seconds. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 for Mitchell.
Silva deliver a big kick to the body to start the second round. A right hand landed and knocked Mitchell down. Silva let him up. Silva delivered another kick to the body. Mitchell worked to get the fight to the ground. He pulled guard and got back up. Mitchell again looked for a takedown. Silva stuffed the attempt. Silva picked the pressure up. Mitchell repeated looked to get the fight to the ground but Silva remained upright. Mitchell went back to landing leg kicks. Mitchell looked for a takedown. Silva applied a ninja choke and Mitchell went to sleep right after tapping out.
The official time of the submission win was 3:52 of the second round.
