What’s better than having hands like Canelo Alvarez? Having defense like Floyd Mayweather Jr., which is why “Money” was able to defeat the Mexican slugger back in late 2013.
What does that have to do with cage fighting?
Reigning UFC welterweight champion, Belal Muhammad, promised to outbox No. 5-ranked contender, Jack Della Maddalena, by using “Canelo hands” in their UFC 315 pay-per-view (PPV) main event on Sat. night (May 10, 2025) at Bell Centre in Montreal.
How does the Aussie plan to handle the attack?
“Without skipping a beat,” Della Maddalena told Nina Drama. “I’ll Floyd Mayweather his ass, take him to school.”
The champion has just five knockouts in 24 wins against 12 knockouts in 17 victories for the challenger. That said, Muhammad boasts 43 takedowns in his UFC career, tied with retired grappler Damian Maia for eighth all time in the welterweight division.
“I could do everything I wanted to do to Jack,” Muhammad told Anik & Florian podcast. “If I want to keep it standing, I’ll keep it standing. If I want to take it to the ground, I’ll take it to the ground. He doesn’t have that privilege. He can only keep it standing. If it hits the ground, it’s over. I don’t care if he trains with Craig Jones, Brock Lesnar, whoever you’re with. If I want to take you down, you’re going down.”
We’ll find out this weekend in Montreal.
