IU basketball has added 10 players this spring from the transfer portal. Player by player, we’ll take a look at each addition in our “transfer portal spotlight” series.

Today: Josh Harris

Previously: Tucker DeVries, Conor Enright, Reed Bailey, Lamar Wilkerson, Jasai Miles, Tayton Conerway, Jason Drake, Nick Dorn, Sam Alexis

Bio: 6-foot-8, 210-pound sophomore forward from Pembroke Pines, Florida

Previous schools: North Florida (2024-25, one season)

Career stats: 13.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 0.7 steals in 22.5 minutes per game. Harris is a career 55.7 percent shooter from the field, a career 33.3 percent 3-point shooter and a 69.5 percent free-throw shooter.

Career accolades: ASUN All-freshman team (2024-25), ASUN newcomer of the week (Dec. 9, 2024)

Recruitment background

News of a scheduled visit for Harris to Bloomington surfaced on April 26 and by April 29, he had announced his pledge to the Hoosiers.

“The campus was beautiful and I decided (to commit) because the coaching staff was so genuine and real,” Harris told Inside the Hall. “They had a plan for everything. They’re great people, genuine-hearted people and family-oriented people.”

Notes on his game

The 10th player to commit to the Hoosiers out of the transfer portal this spring, Harris has three seasons of eligibility remaining after an impressive debut season at North Florida. While nothing is guaranteed with year-to-year roster continuity in college basketball, Indiana hopes Harris can be a multi-year contributor to the program and a stalwart in the frontcourt for the next three seasons.

He started the entire season for Ospreys and in the third game of his career, he had 23 points and seven rebounds in a 105-93 upset win at Georgia Tech. Later in the season, he had a 31-point effort against Queens.

While not an overly explosive athlete, Harris finishes well in the paint and the rim with a 57.7 percent mark on 2s as a freshman.

In ASUN play, Harris had the 12th highest usage rate in the league, rarely turned the ball over and did a solid job finishing plays or drawing fouls. As likely the third big man in the rotation behind Reed Bailey and Sam Alexis, Harris should provide a scoring punch off the bench next season with the hope of growing into a larger role in future seasons.

Scouting report

“Examining his profile on KenPom.com, several numbers stand out as impressive. Harris was the 72nd-best offensive rebounder in the country with an offensive rebounding percentage of 13. In ASUN games, he was the league’s fourth-best offensive rebounder. His offensive rebounding percentage was 13.9. He was also strong on the defensive boards in ASUN play, ranking eighth in the conference in defensive rebounding percentage at 20.2. He had four games with 10 or more rebounds, including 14 against Warner University on December 5. Offensively, Harris scored in double figures 17 times in his debut season and shot an efficient 58.4 percent from the field on 300 attempts. He was 11-for-33 on 3s.” – Inside the Hall

“My strengths are scoring inside and getting to the rim by driving the ball and rebounding extremely well. I want to keep improving my jumper.” – Josh Harris to Inside the Hall
