Shane Lowry is motivated to make it a success at Oakmont next week, but is aware that he must first focus on the challenge at hand. The Irish golfer is currently playing at the RBC Canadian Open where he trails leader Cameron Champ by four shots after two rounds.
Lowry had planned to go to Oakmont on Monday, but he realized that playing at the RBC Canadian Open might be a better option.
“I was supposed to go on Monday, but I didn’t fancy beating myself up after a week at The Memorial, so I didn’t bother,” Lowry said, as quoted by Irish Independent.
“I’m going to block out the noise of what everyone is saying,” Lowry said. “You read online and think 25 over is going to win, but when you look at the forecast, it’s going to rain the first few days. So that’s going to make your course probably a bit more playable."
Oakmont: A tough challenge for everyone
Oakmont represents a serious challenge for all golfers, even the most experienced. The general impression is that golfers have a bit of fear before this prestigious tournament, but it is clear that everyone will have the same background and conditions for success. However, in the end, who will celebrate at the third Major this year?
There are several favorites, and Lowry is a golfer from whom we can certainly expect to appear at the top.
Lowry, on the other hand, tries to ignore various signs and forecasts from experts, believing that the conditions could be significantly eased due to the rain.
However, he does not want to look too much into the future or analyze it.
“I’m going to block out the noise of what everyone is saying,” Lowry said. “You read online and think 25 over is going to win, but when you look at the forecast, it’s going to rain the first few days. So that’s going to make your course probably a bit more playable.
So we’ll see. You just have to take it one day at a time and one step at a time and see what happens.”- he concluded.
