Sunrisers Hyderabad clinched a five-wicket victory against Chennai Super Kings in Match 43 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, April 25. This marked SRH’s first-ever victory at Chepauk and the third of their season.
SRH immediately impacted, with Shaik Rasheed dismissed on the first ball by Mohammed Shami. Despite a powerplay yielding 50 runs, CSK struggled to build momentum post it—17-year-old Ayush Mhatre, impressed with a 19-ball 30. Ravindra Jadeja fell for 21 just before the halfway stage of CSK’s innings. Dewald Brevis launched three sixes off Kamindu Mendis in a single over. His CSK debut ended after he was brilliantly caught at long-off by the Sri Lankan shortly after. Pat Cummins (2/21) and Harshal Patel (4/28) helped restrict CSK to 154 in 19.5 overs.
The hosts struck early on in the run-chase, dismissing Abhishek Sharma for a silver duck and Travis Head for 19 (16) in the powerplay itself. Heinrich Klaasen (seven off eight) followed a few overs later. 86 were needed from the last 10 overs. The match seemed to remain evenly poised. Ishan Kishan’s 44 anchored the innings before he departed courtesy of an exceptional catch by Sam Curran. Late contributions from Kamindu Mendis (32* off 22) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (19* off 13) guided SRH to victory with eight deliveries to spare.
