Indiana guard Myles Rice will enter the transfer portal, according to Jeff Goodman.
Rice transferred to Indiana from Washington State before last season and averaged 10.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and a steal in 27.5 minutes per game.
Over 68 career games at Washington State and Indiana, Rice has career averages of 12.4 points, 3.3 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.
A first-team All-Pac 12 selection at Washington State in the 2023-24 season, Rice was expected to provide a major upgrade at point guard for the Hoosiers in Mike Woodson’s fourth season.
However, Indiana’s offense never provided Rice with the necessary space to operate freely, and he struggled to utilize his primary strength — speed — in IU’s post-heavy offense.
His top performance in an IU uniform came against South Carolina on November 16. Rice scored 23 points on 7-for-10 shooting in 37 minutes.
The 6-foot-3 guard also had 21 points against Rutgers on January 2 and 20 points against Nebraska on December 13.
Because Rice was more of a score-first than past-first guard, Trey Galloway took over the team’s primary point guard duties by the end of the 2024-25 season.
Rice shot 81.8 percent from the free-throw line, 45 percent on 3s and 32.5 percent on 3s. He had a higher turnover rate – 21.1 percent – than assist rate – 18.3 percent.
He is the fifth IU player to enter the transfer portal this spring, joining Gabe Cupps, Malik Reneau, Mackenzie Mgbako and Jakai Newton.
The Columbia, South Carolina, native has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
