Indiana guard Jakai Newton will enter the transfer portal, he announced on Instagram.
Newton spent two injury-plagued seasons in Bloomington and appeared in four games for the Hoosiers.
After missing the 2023-24 season, the Georgia native scored two points in a 90-55 win against Eastern Illinois on November 10 and four points in a 97-71 win against Sam Houston on December 3.
Newton played in just one Big Ten game, going scoreless in four minutes against Illinois on January 14. The Hoosiers fell 94-69 to the Fighting Illini.
A four-star recruit out of high school, Newton had multiple surgeries and was never consistently healthy during his time in Bloomington.
Newton committed to Indiana in October of 2021 and signed his National Letter of Intent in November of 2022.
He is the fourth IU player to enter the transfer portal this spring, joining Gabe Cupps, Malik Reneau and Mackenzie Mgbako.
The 6-foot-3 guard was a redshirt freshman this past season. If he is granted a medical redshirt for the 2024-25 season, he will have four seasons of eligibility remaining.
