Henry Cejudo thought it was a good idea to invite Belal Muhammad to the Pound 4 Pound podcast “Triple C” hosts with Kamaru Usman, even though “Remember the Name” has a longstanding beef with “The Nigerian Nightmare.”
After all, controversy creates cash.
But what started as a war of words quickly turned physical, with Cejudo (and his bum ankle) caught in the middle. “Triple C” claims the altercation was “Rated R” with Muhammad even trying to kick Cejudo in his Olympic head.
“I was actually kind of happy that Kamaru was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, bring him on,’ because you wouldn’t want to do a podcast with somebody that has your belt,” Cejudo said on JAXXON Podcast. Especially when there’s sh*t that’s been thrown. There was already drama coming in, so once they came in, and I was kind of like the mediator there, ‘Hey, what’s up Belal? What do you think of Kamaru? Hey Kamaru, what do you think of Belal?’ And sh*t just started kind of escalating.”
Muhammad and Usman are both former welterweight champions ranked in the Top 5.
“I’ll be honest with you, Kamaru probably started it, but I could see why,” Cejudo continued. “All of a sudden, I think Kamaru said ‘it’s on sight,’ and Belal said, ‘Well, it’s on sight, what’s up?’ And then Kamaru gets up and then … you guys gotta wait until we release the tape. I was in the middle, I had a f*cking sprained ankle. The whole production crew started coming in. Like, they had to detain both of them. There was about a good eight people there and four trying to get on Belal, but hands were thrown. Slaps were given.”
Usman, 38, is expected to make his return to action opposite Joaquin Buckley atop the UFC Atlanta fight card in June. As for Muhammad, 36, he’s still licking his wounds after coming up short against Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315 earlier this month in Montreal.
Whether or not Usman and Muhammad finish their feud inside the cage remains to be seen.
