Helmut Marko is now 82 years old and has been working in Formula 1 for over 50 years. The Austrian started in 1971 as a driver, but only achieved real success with Red Bull Racing in an advisory role, experiencing championships with Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen. Even in the Formula 1 season of 2025, Marko is still not ready for his retirement.
Marko was a guest on The Inside Track Podcast, where he was asked how long he intends to continue working in F1. “Unfortunately, there are increasingly fewer people that I knew well who are now either no longer alive or able to visit the Grand Prix. Yet, I will not stop as long as I am physically and mentally able to do my job,” said the Red Bull advisor.
Marko has previously stated that he is extremely impressed by Verstappen, the Dutchman has exceeded all expectations according to the 82-year-old. This gives the Austrian yet another reason to postpone his retirement, he said: “I am passionate and have a lot of love for this fantastic team with one of the greatest drivers of all time, that keeps me motivated and I have no issues with the extensive travel.

Red Bull Racing in a Tricky Situation with Christian Horner

Although Marko is still not planning to stop in Formula 1, there is currently a lot of uncertainty at Red Bull. GPBlog was able to confirm that Christian Horner is gradually getting less responsibility in his role as team boss. Even though Horner has been part of Red Bull in Formula 1 from the beginning along with Marko, it is unclear how much longer the two will continue this together.

Helmut Marko and Christian Horner have been working together for 20 years, but now there’s unrest at Red Bull Racing

The Austrian himself is still motivated and also revealed that not only does Verstappen ensure he continues to work with passion. Rookie Isack Hadjar has also made a huge impression on the 82-year-old. The Frenchman thus perhaps gives him another reason to keep postponing his retirement.
