ESPN analyst offers huge prediction for young Packers defender

Edgerrin Cooper was a revelation for the Green Bay Packers last season.

The Packers had high expectations for him after selecting him with the 45th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M.

Cooper exceeded those expectations. He finished his rookie season with 87 tackles, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one interception. Perhaps even bigger of a deal for the Packers, though, was that Cooper quickly picked up on the pace of NFL football, and he seemingly got better week by week.

Heading into year two of Cooper’s young career, the expectations are even higher. In fact, ESPN’s Ben Solak believes the young Packer could be heading into an All-Pro year in 2025.

Cooper was one of the players Solak listed as a “name to know” heading into 2025.

“The lightbulb went on for Cooper last year, as he rose from sub-package player to 100% snap starter by season’s end,” Solak wrote. “From December on, I’m not sure there were five more impactful linebackers in all of football. Cooper is highly active against the run and a reliable tackler in space. He has the size and athletic ability to be a solid coverage man. After he got one All-Pro vote last season, I’d wager Cooper gets double-digit votes in 2025.”

The last time the Packers had an All-Pro at linebacker was in 2021 when De’Vondre Campbell had a breakout season. However, that appeared to be more of a flash in the pan than anything.

In Cooper, though, the Packers have a young player who is only getting better. He’ll now have another offseason under his belt, and he’s heading into 2025 fully healthy after a hamstring injury limited him to 14 games in his rookie season. There’s a world in which the young linebacker out of Texas A&M is viewed as one of the best at his position next season.

Especially with a creative defensive coordinator in Jeff Hafley calling the shots, the sky is the limit for Cooper in 2025.
