Ennis vs Stanionis: Eddie Hearn Discusses Legacy Mission
Hearn Addresses Ennis-Ortiz Rumours
This Ennis vs Stanionis welterweight unification main event will bring together the exceptional speed of Ennis and the accurate punching of Stanionis. “Boots” has made it clear he’s focused only on April 12, and when Hearn spoke to Fight Hub TV, he addressed “Boots” supposedly ducking a fight with Vergil Ortiz Jr: “He’s the world champion at 147 pounds. The fight was offered at 154 for no title, and he wanted to defend his world championship and unify.
“You know, once you vacate and move up as no champion, it’s like, it’s a big move, you know? And, I just feel that he said look, I’ll fight Vergil Ortiz, I’ll fight Crawford, I’ll fight any of them but I really want to unify. That’s been my dream. Don’t forget Marcos, as well, unfortunately for him, it wasn’t his fault because Errol Spence (meant Terence Crawford) decided not to fight him. They elevated him to world champion. He’s never beaten a world champion to become world champion.”
“Boots is purely about legacy. He’s about CV, he’s about creating, you know, iconic moments to unify the division and stuff like that. So, you know, I think if we hadn’t delivered the Stanionis fight, then we may have been looking back at the Ortiz fight going, well maybe we should have taken that,” said Hearn talking about legacy and delivering the best fights.
“But he said, look I believe in you. Do you think you can get me a unification? And I said, yeah. And he went, let’s do it, and I thought, s**t. And then I went out and got it thankfully. So, it all worked out perfectly in the end,” added Hearn regarding legacy and making the big fights for Ennis.
