He was born in Oxnard, California, but he is currently calling Las Vegas (“Los Vargas”), Nevada home.
Dad, Fernando, was a hugely popular world champion who faced the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Winky Wright, Felix Trinidad, Ike Quartey, and Shane Mosley. His 2 brothers are both undefeated pros. But, it’s GQ model-esque brother Emiliano that is turning heads in the boxing world. He has banked 2 impressive wins this year and is a perfect 14-0, with 12 stoppages.
He is polite and approachable with fans and media and has a smile that lights up a room. However, when that bell rings, he is looking to show fans why they call boxing ‘the hurt business’. He can box and is getting better all the time. But if he hurts you, he’ll bring it and look to finish.
Only 21 years old, he recently scored a 2nd round stoppage on May 4 against rugged Juan Leon of Spain at the T-Mobile Arena. The win, which kicked off Cinco de Mayo weekend, was on the undercard of the undisputed junior-featherweight title fight between the champion Naoya Inoue and challenger Ramon Cardenas.
It was another impressive win in a burgeoning career of impressive wins. With his looks and charisma, many people in boxing see him as the next superstar if he can keep winning and eventually capture a world title.
Signed with Top Rank Boxing, matchmakers Brad Goodman and Bruce Trampler are moving him at a steady pace with incremental tests along the way. And he is busy, since turning pro in 2022, he has fought 14 times in 36 months.
Fans should keep in mind that while the Vargas name is well known in boxing, and might open a door, behind every door are heightened expectations and more pressure than most young fighters face. Every fighter he faces would love to add that surname to their resume in the win column.
The youngest of the Vargas brothers is stepping up, taking on all comers, and looks to be headed towards a world title shot. He is passing every test put in front of him, pleasing his father/trainer Fernando and cut man Jorge Capetillo. Showing speed, power, and a finisher’s instinct, he appears to have the whole package. In recent interviews, Vargas was looking to keep moving north in the rankings towards his goal of a world title shot.
“I’m an all-around great boxer, like my Daddy showed me”, he said. “Personally, I wanna be moved as fast as possible. But I have a great team around me. Every crop has its due date. When it’s time for me to be world champion I’m gonna be world champion. I’m looking to get better every time and looking to be the superstar God made me to be”.
