Emanuel Navarrete vs. Charly Suarez Fight Recap
A cut unfortunately ended what had so far been an entertaining contest between Emanuel Navarrete (40-2-1, 32 KOs) and Charly Suarez (18-1, 10 KOs).
Scores at the time of stoppage were 78-75 and 77-76 (x2) in favour of Navarrete. The fight had been stopped one second in round eight after a ringside physician examined the cut above the Mexican’s left eyebrow and determined that he was in no position to continue. With the technical decision win, Navarrete retains his WBO super featherweight world title. He won the belt in early 2023 against Liam Wilson.
Both fighters swung wild punches at each other in the opening round, but it was Navarrete who had better success landing. By the end of the first, Suarez was bleeding from his nose after being hit with straights from the reigning champion. The Filipino’s knees had also been buckled in round one.

As the fight progressed, both continued to exchange wild swinging shots. Suarez’s corner had stopped the bleeding from his nose prior to the beginning of round two, but he was still getting hit clean repeatedly to the head and body from Navarrete’s unorthodox punches. In response, the Filipino threw punches similar to Navarrete’s, but with less success. By the end of round five, it felt like Suarez was trailing on the scorecards.
Early in round six, Navarrete was cut above the left eyebrow following what was ruled to be an accidental clash of heads. However, a hard left hook did land just before the collision and may have been the actual cause of the cut. Suarez capitalized on this and had much success in rounds six and seven as Navarrete struggled with the blood that was pouring into his eye. Unfortunately for the challenger, the fight was terminated early in the eighth on the recommendation of a ringside physician.
