Edgar Berlanga Blasts Caleb Plant For ‘Disgraceful’ Opponent Choice, Calls Him A ‘Disgrace To Boxing – Boxing News 24

Edgar Berlanga roasted Caleb Plant today on X, reacting to him choosing the bottom-ranked Jose Armando Resendiz to fight next month on May 31st on PBC on Prime Video.

Plant (23-2, 14 KOs) had been hounding Berlanga for a fight. He left himself wide open to be dumped on by Edgar as well as the boxing world for choosing #15 WBA Resendiz (15-2, 11 KOs) as his opponent. This guy was recently knocked out by Elijah Garcia.

There’s not much you can say in ‘Sweethands’ Plant’s defense with this horrible opponent. He should have showed a spine by insisting that his opponent be one of these killers:

Opponent Choice

Berlanga had a lot to say about Plant’s choice of opponent. He says it’s “sad” that ‘Sweethands’ is fighting a non-contender. This choice hurts Caleb’s ability to continue pushing for a fight against Berlanga because if he’s going to be fighting guys like Resendiz and Trevor McCumby, he doesn’t have the ability to argue that he’s worthy of a fight.

Man, it’s f***** sad!” said Edgar Berlanga on X, roasting WBA interim super middleweight champion Caleb Plant for cherry-picking #15-ranked Jose Armando Resendiz for his next fight on May 31st rather than one of the top five killers at 168.

Last week, Plant said that his management sent a contract to Berlanga but never heard anything back. Edgar said there was no contract sent to him, but if he wanted to fight, he could take $200,000 while he pockets $30 million. Berlanga is waiting for the smoke to clear from the Jaime Munguia vs. Brunco Surace 2 rematch on May 3rd. He wants to fight Munguia next if he’s victorious.

Plant likely doesn’t choose his opponents, but he obviously has some say-so in who he fights, and he could have vetoed this selection in favor of one of the top five contenders.

However, after the way Plant looked in his last fight, getting dropped in the fourth by fringe contender Trevor McCumby, it makes sense that he’s picking from the bottom of the barrel with his fight against Resendiz.
