Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitcher Chris Stratton has elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the team this past weekend.
Stratton was outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma City after clearing waivers. Rather than report to the minors, he elected to exercise his right to free agency.

This marked the second time in a week that Stratton had been DFA’d.
He was first designated for assignment last week, cleared waivers and was sent to the minors before electing free agency and re-signing with the Dodgers. The same night he re-signed, he pitched one inning against the Cardinals, allowing one hit and one earned run while striking out one on 20 pitches.
Now, he’s back on the open market
Stratton made three appearances for the Dodgers this season, two of which came against the New York Yankees. The 34-year-old had come off a stint with the Kansas City Royals before he joined the Dodgers this season.
Thus far in the 2025 season, Stratton has recorded a 7.71 ERA in 15 appearances with 22 strikeouts and a 2.00 WHIP in 21 innings.
The Dodgers have not been in a great spot when it comes to their pitchers. They currently have 14 pitchers on the injured list and are doing all they can to keep their staff fresh, from starters to relievers.

While the Dodgers may need the pitchers, Stratton is not playing at his best, and that made the decision easy for Los Angeles. In his career, Stratton has played for the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Angels, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers, Royals and the Dodgers.
In 374 appearances, Stratton has a career 4.64 ERA with a 41-27 win-loss record, 16 saves and 570 strikeouts in 624.1 innings pitched.
