Deontay Wilder (43-4-1, 42 KOs) was one of the most feared heavyweight fighters before his taxing trilogy with Tyson Fury. Since then “The Bronze Bomber” has been widely written off. He has lost 4 out of his last five fights, and many have doubted if we will see him again. Recently Global Combat Collective announced that the Alabahma native will face Tyrrell Herndon (24-5, 15 KOs) at the Charles Koch Arena, Wichita. Ahead of his comeback, “The Bronze Bomber” has appeared on DAZN’s Ariel x Ade: The Boxing Show and reflected on his injury problems ahead of his comeback.

Deontay Wilder Reflects on June 27 Comeback Fight

Deontay Wilder Talks Injury Troubles and Being Ready

Wilder destroyed all comers in a mostly devastating fashion with only Bermane Stiverne lasting the 12 rounds before his split draw with Tyson Fury.

His return on June 27 will be his first fight since his KO loss to Zhilei Zhang. Before that, Wilder also lost to Joseph Parker. The former WBC champion is now ready to return and has spoken about his journey to this fight: “We’ve had many opportunities, but we’ve had to get a lot of things out the way like recovery,” Wilder said.

“We’ve been doing many different things, staying in shape most of all because we knew I was going to return, we just did not have the date to return because of all the injuries I had and the different things outside as well that was going on.

“We wanted to make sure that I was fully healthy, physically, mentally and emotionally.”

Shoulder Injury

Deontay Wilder also revealed the extensive troubles he’s had with his shoulder, and the constant pain when throwing his much feared right hand: “Anybody who knows about shoulder injuries knows that it’s one of the longest injuries you can go through, and I ended up injuring my shoulder at one point in time, and it healed,” Wilder added.

“The Bronze Bomber” added: “Then I ended up having an accident, falling on the same shoulder and then I had to start the process over again.

“Every time I threw my right hand; it would be nothing but pain.”

Many questions will be asked ahead of Wilder’s return but does his right hand have the answers like it used to?
