Dear Patriots fans, stop pretending like the Eagles are trading A.J. Brown

Let’s nip these dumb ‘A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots?!’ trade “rumors” in the bud right now.

It’s not happening.

The Philadelphia Eagles are not trading A.J. Brown to the Patriots.

Or any team, for that matter.

There’s simply no good reason for the Eagles to trade him.

Not one.

It was less than one year ago that Brown signed a contract extension that runs through the 2029 season.

A new deal that causes the Eagles to lose $13.9 million in cap space this year if he’s traded before June 1.

It doesn’t matter that Brown used to play for Mike Vrabel.

It doesn’t matter that Matthew Berry included this note in the things he heard while at the NFL Combine (bold emphasis mine):

14. To that point about a shallow WR market; I’ve heard the Patriots WILL do whatever they can to get a real “WR1” for Drake Maye and the new coaching staff. I heard they are knocking on all doors, seeing what they can possibly trade for, and one person told me they heard the Patriots called Philly asking if A.J. Brown was available. Shrug emoji on if that’s true, or what Philly’s answer was, but this much seems certain: New England will aggressively try to upgrade its wide receiver room this offseason.

It doesn’t matter that a Patriots beat reporter recently said that Brown “is a much more reasonable get” than other top receivers. That reporter’s exact quote, by the way:

“I love A.J. Brown. And I love the fact that you are actually sensible to go back to A.J. Brown instead of barking up the Tee Higgins, DK Metcalf, and [Brandon] Aiyuk [trees]. Who are just not gonna happen. A.J. Brown is a much more reasonable get. Why would the Eagles divorce themselves from him? Um, I don’t know exactly what the—”

Lol.

Exactly zero reasoning on why the Eagles would be willing to trade him.

Because there is none!

You’re just not getting A.J. Brown, Patriots fans.
