De Los Santos Promises ‘End’ For Keyshawn Davis – Boxing News 24

Edwin De Los Santos says when he connects with one of his shots, his fight with WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn Davis will “end” on the spot on June 7th. De Los Santos (16-2, 14 KOs) believes that Davis (13-0, 9 KOs) won’t be able to take his power and will be destroyed.

Keyshawn vs. De Los Santos will be headlining at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. This is Davis’ hometown. So, there could be a massive crowd of 13,000+ fans. The event will be shown live on ESPN and ESPN+.

De Los Santos’s KO Promise

“If I connect, I don’t think the fight will continue because it’ll end right there,” said Edwin De Los Santos to Fighthype when asked what will happen to Keyshawn Davis if he lands a good shot on him. “On June 7th, I’m going to take over that city,” said De Los Santos about fighting in Davis’ hometown of Norfolk at the Scope Arena.

With De Los Santos’ one-punch power, he could KO Keyshawn if he lands cleanly like he did against Jose ‘Rayo’ Valenzuela. I have a feeling that Davis isn’t going to let him get near enough to land, and will be on his bike from the opening bell. He’ll get plenty of tips from his ‘brother’ Shakur Stevenson on how to avoid De Los Santos’ power by staying on the move and holding whenever he gets close.

“I don’t worry about what plans he has. I did say that he won’t run like Shakur did, but I’m not going to worry about that. We’re going to figure him out in the fight. He came out talking. He looked like he was on vacation. He wants to go on vacation. I’m going to keep going and keep doing what I’m doing. My hard work, you’ll see the results of that,” said De Los Santos.

Keyshawn hasn’t been on vacation. He’s just gotten wealthy all of a sudden, and it’s changed him. It seems like ever since he became a millionaire recently, he’s stopped talking trash as much and appears more formal when speaking. He’s completely altered how he carries himself, pronouncing his words clearly and not sounding shrill. No longer bragging about himself the way he used to during interviews.

Keyshawn’s Reluctance to Engage

I can almost hear a little British accent starting to kick in the way Americans adopt their way of speaking when they get an influx of money to become rich. Keyshawn has become a different person. That could affect his ability to fight, making him unwilling to engage like his ‘brother’ Shakur. If Davis hesitates to stand and fight, De Los Santos may need to chase him around the ring like he did with Stevenson in 2023. Davis would have been better off before he became one of the nouveau riche.

“That’s the reality. Everyone knows the skills and the mobility that Shakur has that set him apart from Keyshawn, and what he has done in his fights,” said Edwin, defending his opinion that Shakur Stevenson is a technically better fighter than Keyshawn.

It shouldn’t upset Davis that De Los Santos thinks Shakur is a better fighter than him skill-wise, because it’s a stated fact. Keyshawn isn’t much of a boxer or mover like Stevenson. We’ve seen what Keyshawn does when dealing with fighters who press. He holds, wrestles, and uses roughhouse tactics. It’s great as long as he’s got a lenient referee that are willing to turn his head while he breaks the rules, but not all refs are like that.

“I have been studying him for quite some time, but on the day of the fight, we will know. We will go in there and see what we need to do,” said De Los Santos about studying Keyshawn’s game.

De Los Santos should take a page out of Andy Cruz’s playbook and pressure Keyshawn the way he did in his four victories against him in the amateurs. He fights the same way now as he did then. The only difference is that he fights two divisions below his natural size, which is welterweight.

Keyshawn should be fighting at 147 or 154, but he knows how tough life would be against killers like Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. Putting constant pressure on Davis is the way to go if De Los Santos can deal with the 15+ lb weight disadvantage he’ll be dealing with. Keyshawn is just lucky that they no longer have weigh-ins on the day of the fight like they used to before they were stopped in the 1980s.

Mayweather Support Won’t Help

“That’s good for Floyd. The new generation that he’s supporting, but that’s nothing that’s going to help him because Mayweather won’t give him four arms in the ring. He’s not going to give him four legs. Mayweather will be outside, and Keyshawn will be in the ring,” said De Los Santos, reacting to being told that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is supporting Keyshawn.

Mayweather isn’t going to try to change the 26-year-old Keyshawn’s fighting style, because it’s already set. He can’t change the way he fights, even if Floyd Jr. did try to make him into a copy of his style. Devin Haney already copied Mayweather’s fighting approach, and he’s seen as one of the most boring fighters in the game. So, the last thing Davis wants to do is join him.
