The Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall matchup is becoming somewhat of a circus, but Dana White may have now been handed a solution to solve it.
Rumors suggest the ‘Bones’ camp is hesitant to accept the heavyweight title unification bout despite the Brit being the clear number one contender. As the division sits in limbo, an idea has arisen which could solve all of the UFC’s problems.
Rising contender Jailton Almeida believes his plan could answer all of the heavyweight division’s questions. The South American insists that the best way to solve the stalemate at the top of the weight class is to hold a grand prix.
“Let’s do it like this,” Almeida said on social media. “Jones x Aspinall fight for the belt [and] a Grand Prix between the contenders.”
“[Jailton] Almeida x [Alexander] Volkov, this fight was already booked and I’m the only one Volkov hasn’t fought yet. [Ciryl] Gane x [Sergei Pavlovich], two European strikers who never fought each other.”
But how does that solve the crisis at heavyweight? If Jones vs. Aspinall does take place, who will be given a shot at him between the four contenders mentioned above?
Well, according to Almeida, the man who comes away with the most memorable victory in their respective fight should be given a shot at UFC gold.
“Who wins most impressive [fights] for [the] belt.”

While Almeida’s plan isn’t perfect, it does cater to viewers as fans have been clamoring for the UFC to do a Grand Prix-style tournament for several years.
The six-man showcase would undoubtedly bring some much-needed attention to the heavyweight division, but will it solve the Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall fight delay?
Throughout the doubt surrounding the blockbuster affair, Dana White has remained positive and believes the fight could get booked for summer.
