RunBlogRun presents: Conversations with Larry
Topic: 2025 Millrose Games: The House that Norb Sander built celebrates 117th Millrose in Style!
My friend, Dr. Norb Sander, is in track heaven with Paavo Nurmi, Joie Ray, and Wille Ritola. The good Doctor, a winner of the NYC Marathon, a Fordham graduate, and a lover of all things French, saved the Armory, now known as the Nike Track & Field Armory.
Norb would be happy to know that Nike removed all five track layers to install the superb new surface, MONDO Super X720, on top of one layer of MONDO and that the athletes love it!
Accolades from sprinters to distance runners, the new NIKE Armory track, 200 meters, celebrated the very best of our sport on February 8, 2025.
Over the eight hours we were there, yours honestly used the Armory Cafe as the global headquarters of RunBlogRun with my crew, Mark Bossardet, Jeff Benjamin, and a cast of characters.
I did not have a media pass, so I purchased a ticket. However, I was still able to get some post-event interviews (thanks, Brett Holts) with Ray Flynn, Ollie Hoare, Eamonn Coghlan, and Kate Payne, and pre-event interviews with Jess Hull, Aleia Hobbs, a local DMR team, and race walk fans.
I loved the meet. The 3,000 meters with Grant Fisher and Cole Hocker took the wind out of me! Two under current 3,000m World record. Whitni Morgan outsprinted Josette Andrews in the women’s 3,000-meter race. In the 800m, Josh Hoey, pushed by Bryce Hoppel, got the AR at 800 meters!
The Mile World record by Yared Nuguse and Hobbs Kessler also under 3:47, and two guys under 3:48 (Cam Myers and Azzedine Habz) was spectacular! And that was after a fine Wanamaker women’s mile with Olympic bronze medalist Georgia Bell, who outkicked Heather MacLean and Nikki Hiltz!
Leaving the track was challenging, as the snow was coming down. My flight was canceled until the next day, so I grabbed dinner at
I have to admit, I was up until 4 am. I could not sleep! It was a great meet, and five thousand screaming fans showed me that twice in seven days, I had experienced track and field at its very best, on the short track version!
