“Deus Da Guerra” has reacted to his loss.
Former two-time UFC Flyweight Champion Deiveson Figueiredo suffered a second-round stoppage loss to Cory Sandhagen in the main event of UFC Des Moines last night (Sat., May 3, 2025). The fight ended when Figueiredo sustained a knee injury in a 50/50 guard, taking several punches that prompted the referee to intervene at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa (watch highlights).
Minutes after the fight, Figueiredo shared a statement on Instagram.
The result is not always what we want, but the fight goes on,” Figueiredo wrote. “Thank you from the heart to God, my family, my team and all of you who cheer, support and believe in me. We will come back stronger. I’m a warrior, and this is just another chapter of my story!”
After going 3-0 to start his Bantamweight career, the former Flyweight champion is now on his first two-fight losing streak of his legendary career. Before UFC Des Moines, “Deus Da Guerra” lost a unanimous decision to Petr Yan.
At 37 years old, Figueiredo’s two-division title hopes are likely all but gone with his most recent loss, and with a knee injury, he will likely face an extended recovery period.
