Top Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight contender Ian Garry returns to action against surging Brazilian knockout artist Carlos Prates at UFC Kansas City this weekend (Sat., April 26, 2025), which goes down inside T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
The mixed martial arts (MMA) community widely regards ‘The Fighting Nerds’ as one of the premier gyms, largely because its male fighters remain undefeated inside the Octagon.
UFC Kansas City headliner Garry largely endorses this view but ranks his upcoming opponent as the least formidable of the gym’s four standout fighters.
“I just think they’re all great, but Prates is the worst of the four,” Garry told CBS recently. “I think [Mauricio] Ruffy is the best. The way Ruffy moves is incredible, the flow, it’s just beautiful to watch. And then you look at someone like Caio [Borralho], who is just talented everywhere, he can beat you on the feet, beat you on the ground. Jean Silva is just a dog. He’s literally a dog who was barking.”
I love watching those guys fight,” Garry concluded. “I think they have great energy and confidence in the Octagon. You see that and think that matters.”
Although Borralho holds the highest ranking among the four, Prates sits second and will have headlined more events by Saturday. There is also an argument that Prates’ UFC resume outshines the others, making Garry’s dismissal seem like pre-fight mind games.
With just three days until their clash, Garry prepares to face the so-called weakest link of ‘The Fighting Nerds.’
