Jasmine Paolini spoke extremely highly about Coco Gauff's game ahead of their Stuttgart meeting and also highlighted that she will need to be at her best to have a proper shot at beating the 2023 US Open champion.
In one of the quarterfinal matches at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, fans will have a chance to watch a player who made two Grand Slam finals last year against a player who won a Slam two years ago. Needless to say, the match will certainly draw lots of interest.
And since both Paolini and Gauff have been off to a strong start in Stuttgart, it could very easily turn into a showdown. Ahead of the match, the Italian shared that lately, she and the American have become somewhat of frequent practice partners.
Paolini: Gauff is a very complete player… I have to play well to be into the match
"We know each other. I have practiced with her a lot in the last I think six months. She's a really tough player. She can play really, really well. Her ball is so powerful, I think. I don't know what to expect, but for sure, I need to try to be aggressive, to try to, you know, control the point," Paolini explained.
"But it's not going to be easy, because she's serving good, moving good, and returning good. She's basically a very complete player to me. So I have to play a good match to be into the match, to try to win some games, have to be focused, and I have to play aggressive and I have to be there every point."
In the past, Gauff saw off the Italian twice on hard courts – in Adelaide four years ago and Cincinnati two years ago.
However, Paolini has completely transformed as a player since their last meeting. While the Italian expects a tough at the office, it is safe to say that the American will feel the same way.
