In September 2018, former UFC Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley dropped his debut rap single, “I’ll Beat Yo Ass,” days after dominating Darren Till at UFC 228 (watch it). The track has since become infamous.
Its notoriety stems from Woodley not beating anyone’s ass since he released the rap track. He is on a four-fight losing streak in mixed martial arts (MMA) and has lost his only two boxing matches, in which he was brutally knocked out by Jake Paul (watch highlights).
Recently, “The Chosen One” was a guest on the Verse Us podcast with Xtreme Couture head coach Eric Nicksick and revealed that his rap banger was aimed at his former boss, UFC CEO Dana White.
“That’s why I made that song, I’ll Beat Yo Ass,” Woodley said. “If you listen to the lyrics, it was for Dana White. I couldn’t say I wanted to beat Dana White’s ass, but I wanted to bad because he made me look stupid. Why are you going to sit here and act like everybody, [Michael] Bisping and [Kenny] Florian were laughing, I’m like, ‘Ha ha ha, I’ll beat both your asses.’ Actually, not Florian; that’s my dog. Yeah, you made me look stupid, and then when I went on air, I couldn’t defend myself.”
Woodley’s relationship with White really soured during the end of his title reign despite four successful defenses, fueling the song’s creation.
It’s been four years since “T-Wood” last fought in MMA. He was slated to compete in the Global Fight League (GFL) this summer, but that return now seems unlikely (details).
