Texas Tech guard Kevin Overton, who played for Darian DeVries at Drake in the 2023-24 season, plans to enter the transfer portal.
Tobias Bass of The Athletic reported late Sunday evening that Overton plans to enter the portal.
A native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the 6-foot-5 wing played at Sunrise Christian in Kansas and had a terrific freshman season at Drake under DeVries.
As a true freshman in 2023-24, Overton started all 35 games for Drake and averaged 11.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. He shot 44 percent from the field, 34.6 percent on 3s and 79.5 percent from the free-throw line.
Overton earned Missouri Valley Conference All-freshman honors and was a four-time MVC freshman of the week at Drake.
Overton transferred to Texas Tech after DeVries left for West Virginia at the end of his freshman season. Given the connection, Overton is a name to monitor in the portal for Indiana as DeVries and the coaching staff build the IU roster for the 2025-26 season.
Last season, Overton played in 36 games for the Red Raiders and averaged 7.8 points and 3.7 rebounds in 22.2 minutes per game.
For his career, Overton is 101-for-297 (34 percent) on 3s and 115-for-146 (78.8 percent) from the free-throw line. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
