Last week, I posted more of an exercise than a question in the PQOTD post. On the post HERE, I made a brief list of the best players at each position on offense, all-time for our Miami Dolphins, that I mostly stole from Kevin’s previous post and then added a couple of my choices. Here was the question exercise that I asked posted:
Please give us your best 11-man all-time offensive starting offensive roster. If you prefer a player that, for some reason (like old age where you can’t remember like you once did) did not make the list above, certainly use that player and tell us why you believe he belongs.
Below are some of your all-time rosters and thoughts-
sdphinsfan is more jazzed about the defense!
QB-Dan
RB-Ricky & Mercury
FB-Czonka
WR-Warfield/Clayton/OJ (shout out to Irving Fryar too)
LT-Webb
LG-Kuech/Simms (I’m gonna fudge here, can’t leave one off)
C-Stephenson (Langer should get an honorable mention)
RG-Larry Little
RT-Big Jake
TE-Crash
Can’t wait until we get to do the Defense!
PA phinphan is a big fan of an all-time Phins great!
I am a huge Nat Moore fan. He was never afraid to go across the middle and did whatever was asked of him, the consummate teammate.
QB – Marino
RB – Williams/Csonka
FB – none going three wide
TE – Randy McMichael
WR – Warfield/Duper/Nat Moore
LT – Webb
LG – Kuechenberg
C- Stephenson
RG – Incognito (I know he was LG but he could play either side)
RT – Long
JasonR1324 says Hill could bump Clayton with a couple more seasons on the roster.
QB – Marino
RB – Williams
FB – Csonka
TE – Jackson
WR – Warfield/Clayton (If Hill sticks around for a couple more years I’ll put him here ahead of Clayton)
LT – Webb
LG – Kuechenberg
C – Stephenson
RG – Little
RT – Long
Thomas23059 wanted Waddle on the list. I like Waddle, but he will still have to show me a bit more.
Jaylen Waddle certainly deserves to be up there as a WR, though he needs to do it longer before he makes the all time starting 11. I do think he has the potential to be there eventually, as he is 3rd in Dolphins history in receiving yards per game.
As far as starting 11 goes, since that was the question:
QB – Marino
RB – Ricky Williams
FB – Czonka
TE – Keith Jackson (but really, we are going three wide)
WR – Hill and Warfield (and on 3 wide I’m going with Waddle)
O-Line – Stephenson, Little, Keuchenberg, Armstead, and Webb because he was good enough to play either side.
Spok507 is really under Jonnu’s spell for the moment.
QB: Marino
RB: 2002 Ricky Williams/2016 Jay Ajayi
WR: Clayton (tho I’d love to see Marino air it out to Hill over and over!)
FB: Czonka
TE: Kind of enamored with Jonnu Smith right now.
OL: Webb, Simms, Stephenson, Little, Long
Cyberflea is also a big Ricky fan, I assume.
QB – Marino
RB – Williams
FB – Csonka
TE – Jackson
WR – Warfield/Duper/Clayton
LT – Webb
LG – Kuechenberg
C – Stephenson
RG – Little
RT – Evans
Dolphster makes a solid point. As much as I was around watching the players of the 70s and 80s and love many of those guys and what they did for my team and my home city, I am pretty sure many would have a hard time competing in today’s NFL.
I have a love/hate relationship with these types of questions because some of my favorite Dolphins were from the 70’s and the game is so different now that some of the best of that era would get eaten alive today because the players are so much bigger/faster/stronger and the game is played so differently. But I’ll give it a shot.
QB: Marino
RB: Rickie Williams
FB: Csonka (of course)
TE: Mandich (admittedly a sentimental pick because he was a personal friend of mine)
WR: (when using 3 wideouts) Warfield, Clayton, Duper (that was the toughest position for me because I hated leaving off Nat Moore and OJ McDuffie)
OL:
C: Stephenson
G: Keith Sims and Larry Little (Sorry Keuch, it breaks my heart to leave you off)
T: Webb and Terron (I know he was injured a lot, but when on the field, he was a force to be reckoned wit
SlayerNation1 says OJ is underrated, but I suspect, like myself, that many of us remember his greatness very well.
There is no way, OJ McDuffie is getting left off. OJ always an afterthought and maybe the most underrated Dolphin, ever. He was tough, worked as downfield, possession, blocking and as a great returner. Duper was a big play field stretcher.
Thank You for leaving Waddle off the list. He is as underwhelming as it gets, especially, at His draft position.
QB – Marino
RB – Williams
FB – Csonka
TE – Jackson
WR – Duper/McDuffie
LT – Webb
LG – Kuechenberg
C – Stephenson
RG – Little
RT – Long
Goes without saying, Shula and no need for another on the HC list.
Francesco ITA can’t endorse you if he couldn’t even see you!
(from 1983… i cant put players i didnt see playing …)
QB Marino
RB Ricky Williams
FB Keith Byars
TE Keith Jackson
WR Tyreek Hill – Irving Fryar
OL Webb-Sims-Stephenson-Newman-Long
That’s our assortment of replies for this evening. I remember many solid lists there and many guys that I remember all too well. I do appreciate each of you who took the time to participate in the exercise. I am traveling but will do my best to have the defensive post up Saturday evening.
