Canadian women playing doubles in the NCAA have been making their mark over the last month. In the most-recent rankings that came out on Mar. 18, five now sit in the Top 20 including an all-Canadian pair in the Top 10.

Here is the monthly university tennis update.

Cadence Brace and Kayla Cross have firmly established themselves as the top pair for Louisiana State University, better known as LSU. Since the calendar flipped to 2025, they are 9-1 as a team (with five incomplete matches).

As a result of their hot start to the season, Brace and Cross, who are both freshmen at LSU, currently sit at No. 7 in the NCAA women’s doubles rankings.

In the pros, Cross currently leads the Road to the NBO, putting her in the pole position to score a main-draw wildcard for the 2025 National Bank Open in Montreal.

Several Canadians made big leaps in the women’s doubles rankings over the last month.

Jessica Alsola has been on fire, winning seven of her last eight doubles matches and is currently on a six-match winning streak for the University of California, Berkeley. As a result, she jumped from No. 47 to No. 12 in the rankings.

Teah Chavez also made a big jump in the doubles rankings over the last month. The Ohio State Buckeye started the month outside the Top 30 and now sits at No. 15 with her partner Luciana Perry. The pair are 10-1 together since first teaming up in January. Chavez is also undefeated in completed singles matches in 2025, a perfect 10-0 (with four matches that were not completed).

One other Canadian features prominently in the women’s doubles rankings but did not see her ranking rise over the last month… because she literally cannot climb higher. That is Melodie Collard of the University of Virginia who, alongside Elaine Chervinsky, is currently the No. 1 doubles player in the NCAA Division I rankings.

Collard has had a tricky start to the year. In February, she switched partners a couple of times and it did not pan out, as she went 1-2 with Karolina Kozkova and Isabelle Lacy. Her 20-match winning streak with Chervinsky was also snapped last week by none other than her countrywoman Alsola and her partner Mao Mushika.

Still, Collard has hung on to the top spot in the rankings. She and Chervinsky have been the No. 1-ranked pair since Feb. 5.

CANADA – Rouge et Or Pulling Away

A month ago, the Université Laval Rouge et Or and the Université de Montréal Carabins women’s teams were tight at the top of the Quebec University League standings. Now, the Rouge et Or sit comfortably out front.

The two schools met for the first time this season on Mar. 8 and the Rouge et Or handily won 5-2 to create some separation in the standings. They then increased their lead with a 6-1 win over the Carabins a week later. As a result, Université Laval now sits six points clear at the top of the table, having won all 10 of their matchups with other schools this season.

Université de Montréal is tied for second with McGill.

On the men’s side, the Rouge et Or also sit in first place although with just a four-point lead. They are 11-1 overall although their one defeat came at the hands of the team closest to them in the standings, the Patriotes of the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières. However, the Patriotes are still four points back overall.

The Quebec championships are taking place this weekend.
